1. Learn “Crosswordese.” Crosswordese refers to words often found in puzzles that rarely see use in everyday speech. For example, if a clue contains an abbreviation, chances are the answer is an abbreviated word. Fisher House Foundation is a philanthropic group comprised of homes throughout the United States that welcome military members, veterans, and their families. Over the years, the organization has saved veterans and their families roughly $320 million in expenses.
Beyond the organization’s commitment to free housing for military families, Fisher House Foundation also provides scholarship opportunities to members of the military and those closest to them. Through the group’s military children scholarship offerings, young adults receive nearly $1 million every year toward higher education. Fisher House Foundation also has established a number of scholarships specifically for spouses of military service members. This break in crowds often extends into October, but the Southwest Monsoon normally arrives between June and September.
Other than that, the rest of the year stays fairly busy. Between November and June, Singapore is awash with business travelers and winter leisure travelers, making for a very busy experience. There also are the city’s multiples holiday festivals that bring in more visitors and result in higher hotel prices. Singapore also experiences its second annual monsoon, the Northeast Monsoon, between November and January. The Northeast Monsoon is much more severe than the Southwest one, and the city often sees an average of 12 inches of rain at its peak.
