The 3 Highest Paid NHL Players in 2019-20

The recipient of a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Slippery Rock State College, Patrick Stoup is an experienced business development executive who has worked as CEO at SAI since 2014 and previously served 17 years as its president. Outside of his professional endeavors, Patrick Stoup is a former competitive hockey player who enjoys following the National Hockey League (NHL).

Twenty-five players had salaries of at least $10 million during the 2019-20 NHL season. Below are the three with the highest salaries:

1. Mitch Marner – A 22-year-old native of Markham, Ontario, Marner is in his fourth season with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He recorded a career-high 94 points in the 2018-19 season and signed a six-year, $65.3 million contract extension with the team on September 13, 2019. He has the seventh-highest annual cap hit in the league at $10.89 million, but received $16 million during the 2019-20 season.

2. John Tavares – Like his teammate Marner, Tavares has a front-loaded contract that included $15.9 million in salary during the 2019-20 season. The 29-year-old former first overall pick of the New York Islanders signed a seven-year, $77 million contract with the team on July 1, 2018.

3. Auston Matthews – The first overall pick of the Maple Leafs in the 2016 NHL Draft and recipient of the Calder Trophy in 2016-17, Matthews signed a five-year, $58.17 million extension with the team during the 2018-19 season. His salary was $15.9 million in 2019-20 and his average cap hit is the third-highest in the league at $11.63 million.
